Sufragio efectivo, no reelección?

Do you think the current laws that severely limit reelection are effective when it comes to prevent that too much power falls into the hands of one person?
Of course it prevents Porfirian-style abuses, but the PRI era has shown that even without reelection a very oppressive system can exist. Also it prevents politicians from being verdicted by the people. If a politician doesn't have a chance to get reelected he doesn't have any reasons to behave himself. Giving politicans the possibily to get reelected may make them less corrupt and more democratic.
What are your thoughts on this subject.

The problem with dictatorships
It seems that the no-reelection rules allows for power to be shared by different groups within the system. And although there is no personal accountability towards the candidate, a system of party accountability is developing in Mexico.
Also, it seems that a major problem with power in Mexico was that once they arrived to power, the individual or party refuses to leave. This has been worked out for individuals; the idea that reelection is wrong is very strong in Mexico. But it is still working out a solution for parties. :)
